Restoran Yap Hup Kee is a cherished Hakka culinary gem nestled in the bustling heart of Pudu, Kuala Lumpur. Specializing in authentic Yong Tow Foo, this quaint old-timer eatery invites diners into a simple yet warm atmosphere where the focus is firmly on delivering fresh, flavorful dishes that transport you straight to traditional Hakka kitchens.
At Yap Hup Kee, the star is undoubtedly the Yong Tow Foo. Here, the fish paste is pure and unadulterated by shrimps, making it a trustworthy choice for those with crustacean allergies—a thoughtful touch that showcases their commitment to quality and authenticity. Diners pick their preferred ingredients upon arrival, which are then expertly refried or reheated by the friendly staff, offering a personalized dining experience.
One cannot visit without indulging in their celebrated curry Chee Cheong Fun. The curry is a revelation: luxuriously thick, vibrantly flavorful, and studded with dried shrimp that add a delightful umami punch. The combination of silky rice rolls drenched in this rich curry and topped with crispy bits creates an irresistible harmony of textures and tastes that lingers on the palate. Complimented by savory pork skin served both in soup and in curry form, the dishes feel like a comforting embrace—familiar yet exciting with every bite.
While the menu leans towards fried options and lacks some traditional treats like stuffed chillies or eggs, the quality and freshness of each item more than compensate. The environment inside is modest and air-conditioned, though it can feel warm and humid—a part of the charm that reminds you of an authentic local eatery where the food takes center stage. It is an ideal spot for a casual breakfast or a late-night food hunt, with speedy service ensuring your selections arrive piping hot.
Price-wise, dining here is reasonable given the freshness and flavor, though a generous order can edge towards the pricier side at about RM20+ per person. Nonetheless, many loyal patrons, including Hakka families and long-time KL residents, make the trek here repeatedly, proving Yap Hup Kee’s place as a reliable staple in the city’s vibrant food scene.
For those craving a true taste of Kuala Lumpur's Hakka heritage, Restoran Yap Hup Kee offers an unpretentious yet deeply satisfying experience—where every plate tells a story of tradition, care, and culinary passion.

2nd visit to this quaint, old-timer restaurant that specialises in Yong Tow Foo in the middle of Pudu in KL. Food tastes great, very authentic. Might be a bit pricy if you order a lot of dishes (as me and my group did) which averages to around RM20+ per pax. However food is fresh and their chee cheong fun curry is excellent. Curry is flavourful and just the right amount of thickness, dried shrimp sprinkled on top is perfect. Parking is terrible during weekdays and the lunch crowd gets busy. However there is 3 rows of indoor seating, with a few tables for outdoor seating. Ambience is your typical kopitiam (which is part of the charm) and service is good. A must try if you are in the area, the shop is full of charm and the food served is authentic and flavourful.

They have 2 shop lots. Kitchen is in front. You pick what you want at the entrance and they will re-fry or head up for you. Many options to choose from and the fish paste is pure fish paste. This is unlike some Yong Tau Fu which has mashed shrimps it. If you have crustaceans allergy you can eat in peace. Inside has AC but like many chinese shop they open the minimum. Shop feels warm and humid. A small bowl of keoy theow cost RM 5 which i think is a rip off. You will likely need 2 bowls plus the yong tau fu. It would be upwarda or RM 20 Per person. Parking can be hard as another overrate kopitiam is actoss the street. Good to come once in a while. Definitely nit your daily option.

The curry chee Cheong fun is really very good with the dried shrimp. I felt that there weren't many choices for items as they are mostly fried stuff. No eggs, stuffed chillies etc. However the pork skin is really very good. They put it in soup. I got another portion with curry and it's even better. Soup is very good too.

A very good place with good food and plenty of table. The price is also very cheap compare to the famous nearby Siu Duk restaurant. To order, just pick all the food you want and order some like curry with the staff. The curry is a must try, and other are also very good food. I would say this is a very suitable place for breakfast.

One of the best curry Chee Cheong Fun spots in KL, the unique curry gravy and crispy toppings make it especially delicious. Simply pick what you want at the entrance, and they’ll re-fry or heat it up for you. The shop has air-conditioning, but it still feels quite warm and humid inside, so it’s not the best place to sit and chat for long
